Sports Photography

April 27th 2006 22:29
Images are worth a thousand words and some of the greatest sporting moments in history are best remembered as a classic still shot. If you like your sports, are creative and fancy your photography flare, why not give combine these passions and become a sports photographer. Someone with a natural knack for photography, you can quickly propel themselves up the ranks from a basic cadetship. As a sports photographer you’d typical arrive at an event well before the start and set up equipment either in a media room or on the side lines. Its also the time to plan your shots, angles, lighting, lens and position. During the event, you’ll have the best seats in the house. A media pass will provide you with access to areas the general public never gets to experience and the best, unobstructed sideline seats.

On the negative side, it is hectic and competitive work especially as the magnitude of the event increases. Whilst everyone else in the stadium is grabbing a beer and pie at half time, this is a crucial break for a sports photographer to review their shots, pick out the best and perhaps upload pictures for running reports for the news service. Following the event, final editing and reviewing is done for dispatch to the news service. Another downside are the work hours. Typically sporting events are held late in the week and over the weekend so a lot of weekend work is required.

Know Your Wage

April 25th 2006 21:41
With all the recent industrial relations and Australian Workplace Agreement debates, now is as good a time as any to make a quick check of your wage. It’s important to make sure you’re getting your full employment entitlements for your position. This includes receiving the base rate of pay (or award wage) as defined by the government. The award wage is the minimum amount anyone employed in a given profession can paid.

The awards for NSW employees in the private sector are all listed on the NSW Industrial Relations website. Use the “check your pay” feature to make sure you’re getting your full entitlements and wages. You can also review your employment conditions.

Cinematography

April 23rd 2006 19:35
If you’re into films, visual media and have a creative streak cinematography may be your ideal job. A cinematographer is responsible for interpreting the wishes of the director and translating those images and moods to the camera operator. In the initial stages of creating a production, the cinematographer and director will work closely together to determine how to translate a script into a film. Essentially, the director directs the actors and the cinematographer directs the cameras. The cinematographer has to determine how to use lighting, angles, distance, focus and the film to create the required mood. The cinematographer composes the scene and provides direction for the camera operators. When the scenes have been filmed the cinematographer reviews the shoot and makes adjustments to complete the desired effects.

The skills required for a cinematographer include;

Jobs for Students - Barista

April 19th 2006 01:00
Considering the number of students on the blogs, I thought I’d look at a few shorter term, part time job ideas to ensure the cash strapped students get their weekly beer allowance.

First off the list… becoming a barista. I figure it’s the perfect uni student job, coffee tends to be the favoured daily brew around campus so you may as well know how to make a great coffee.
