A Four Day Workweek might be the new norm

This post on BoingBoing offers some thoughts on how we might resort to the four day workweek in the current economic climate.
When times are good and money is fast and easy, people pull in big salaries, buy fancy condos and go on massive vacations, fueled by the ruddy cheek of a cheerful economy. People have too much work, and find that they don't have enough free time to pursue hobbies or spend with their family.
BoingBoing suggests:
"[the author] notes that it's not the money of the millionaire that most people want; it's the freedom that it buys them. So what keeps us from being free and enjoying it? It's a valid question but I had to ask its opposite: what keeps us from enjoying work?"
Honestly, I don't know - my adult liife has been in pursuit of a career that I would find stimulating... something that I'd be interested in, that would offer change and variety, with a challenging environment.
Most people, I've noticed, don't find this, or don't find it in their current position. Some make a break for it in middle-age, finding that they're surprisingly uninterested in managing a Credit Default Swap desk in Manhattan, preferring to get a place out in the country, where they can make honey.
Hey, I like honey, too.
"Ferris writes that "the perfect job is one that takes the least time." I beg to differ. I love what I do because it demands more and more of me. So, the perfect job is one that requires the most of you -- more of your talent, more of your time and more of your will to make something happen. It challenges you to grow and learn more about yourself, often through the people you work with. I realize not everyone has a job they love and nowadays, a lot of people are happy just to have a job, even if they don't love it. Nonetheless, I feel fortunate not only to have a good job but to be in a position to make a difference in other people's lives. I want more hours, not fewer. "
Certainly, though, there are people with jobs that don't inherently provide enjoyment. Data entry? My mother did that for years, grimly, doing that menial task as required, just to earn a paycheck.
Well... I'd rather work for less money and do something I like, but that's probably naivety rearing its ugly head...
