Armed Security Guard

Security guards posing
They're the guys that get knocked off first in bank robberies, and they're always taken hostage. Have you ever thought about becoming an Armed Security Guard?

A posting on gumtree for a part-time armed security guard brings a lot of questions to the curious reader.

One hour, maybe two? Trips overseas? Prove that you are worth it?

Sounds like a job for the mob, picking up laundered cash, or running shotgun on drug transactions.

Would I recommend you taking this job? Definitely not.

There are plenty of security companies in Sydney that run legitimate businesses:

Always Synergy

UCT Groups

Double Bay Security

The advantages of being a security guard are many. A uniform. A potential weapon. Limited authority. Odd working hours. The potential for hilarious stories. The danger. The adrenaline.

From this security services guide:

"3) When it comes to hiring security guards, it doesn't matter whether the guards are employed by an agency or hired directly by the end user; interviewing is essential in order to find the right person for the position. The advantage of using a security guard service is that the company is bonded, background checks have already been made, a certain amount of training has been completed, and the guard can be terminated easily since he works for the agency. The advantage to directly hiring the security guard is greater control over hours, appearance, behavior and in many cases, lower overall costs."

I could never figure out one thing--how does a guy making 8 or 10 bucks and hour afford a $400 pistol?????
