Get your outsourced job back!

May 23rd 2008 10:46
Must be the Chinese money yuan renminbi
Losing American jobs to China? Yeah, sure... we've all heard it. Jobs shipped overseas to India and China, where the low labour costs make it easier for international corporations to turn a profit.

Unfortunately for the Chinese, the plummeting US dollar combined with Chinese inflation, is making things look a lot better in the States.

In fact, the LA Times has an interesting article about how Chinese firms are outsourcing BACK to the US.

I found this on BoingBoing , which notes the following reasons for Chinese industrialists to bring jobs back to America: buying land in North Carolina is 1/4th the cost of the same size land in south China, and the cheap electricity is much more reliable than in China.

It's an unprecedented idea... but the tanking economy in the States is making it look more attractive by the day. It's a country filled with highly skilled people and contains a reliable, efficient infrastructure. You can get fresh steaks delivered to your house in a day. That's good eatin'.

The Onion makes a fine satirical point: Chinese Factory Worker Can't Believe the S**t He Makes For Americans. Even the Tibetan independence flags are, apparently, made in China.

On the subject of Chinese firms moving factories to America: one Boingboing commenter noted:

"I await the time when we're making all the crap for Chinese Wal-Marts."

China is reacting to market forces.
Supply and demand.

I worked for a leading g3 creative design company in Scotland who purchased all promotional gifts direct from China.

It's funny when the land costs less in China, though!
