Job Hunting Top Tips I
5) Make a "to do" list every day.
Get into the habit of creating a career hunting list. This will help you organize your job search in terms of priorities and keep you focused on finding that perfect job. It will also prevent you from forgetting any important information, deadlines or tasks which may cost you job. You may want to keep a calendar or diary of events so that there is a visual aide to help planning.
6) Recruit a buddy.
Job hunting can be tough, frustrating work. Link up with a friend who is also job hunting. Arrange to speak weekly and report on accomplishments, best practices, and future plans. A close friend will help you get through the trying times of job interviews and applications. They’ll be able to sympathize and may be able to offer some help or advice.
7) Learn how to talk about yourself.
Throughout your job search, you will speak with many people at different levels. You must be comfortable having conversations about yourself with other people. I personally find talking about myself in job interviews to be one of the most difficult aspects of the employment process. Remember that you are your own advertisement and the recruiter is not going to know much or anything of your accomplishments. Don’t be negative or modest. When it comes to an interview, you are the best person for the job, so let the employer know exactly why you are perfect for the position. Keep in mind that you never know who may end up being useful to your job hunt.
8) Find out all there is about employers in your field.
Researching and demonstrating your interest in a company or industry with research is invaluable information. Remain current on any issues or developments in the field, read trade journals or professional publications, and read the newspaper. It is extremely impressive during an interview if you know about the latest merger or coup in the industry. An employer will be highly impressed if you can demonstrate a solid background knowledge of the company and industry. Furthermore, the research will usually alert you to new job openings.
