Cleaning:
Cleaning jobs are another service industry task similar to gardening. You can either work as a self employed individual or join a company that will find regular work for you. Cleaning jobs require general domestic upkeep and maintenance chores. Again the older community seeks cleaners to help them around the house and lets them maintain a relatively independent lifestyle. Active families may need a cleaner to help with some of the domestic chores that are difficult to keep a top of. The rewarding aspect about cleaning and gardening work is that you can usually find employment for yourself without working for an agency. This means that you’ve cut out a middle man (an employer) between you and the person receiving a service. The payback is that you’ll be able to earn a better rate of pay as a commission does not need to go to an employer.
A cleaning job can be relatively flexible. Once you’ve found some people who need you’re services, negotiating a time to suit both of you is relatively easy. Some people may give you a key and expect you to do the cleaning whilst they’re out during the day. Others prefer to be around whilst you are doing your thing. If you are cleaning in an unsupervised manor be sure to treat the job responsibly. People will notice if you are charging for a particular number of hours worth of cleaning but not producing an equivalent amount of work. If someone give you a key to their place, be very responsible with it. If something should happen and you lose it, inform the person immediately.
The other unique thing with cleaning is that it puts you in a unique position to snoop through other people’s private lives. You’ve got carte blanche to go through other people draws and closets. No matter how tempting, it is highly unprofessional to snoop through other people’s belongings. You wouldn’t like someone else to be having a good read of your personal diary or riffling through your underwear drawer. Someone will notice if their personal possessions have been tampered with and it will cost you your job. Make sure you get a clear indication from the beginning exactly what you are required to clean and maintain.
You’ll get a clearer idea of what is expected of your cleaning chores when you talk through a specific job. Generally, you can expect to be doing vacuuming, dusting, window cleaning, dishwashing, sweeping, tidying bedrooms, folding clothes and common rooms and wiping down surfaces. If you think you are asked to do something that is beyond the scope of a general cleaning activity, suggest some sort of compensation with additional pay.
