Gardening:
Gardening is a great way of getting outdoors during the spring and summer months. In the cooler winter periods it can get a bit chilly, although Australia is temperate enough to make it a year round job. It is a good job idea which many young people do not pursue because they think you need to have qualifications. This is not necessarily true. There are plenty of people advertising in local papers and community websites looking for someone who is prepared to spend a few hours tending and keeping their suburban garden looking neat. Many gardens don’t need a full blown landscapers and horticulturalist’s assistance. Furthermore, these services are very expensive. The average home occupant can’t afford the cost of hiring a gardening professional on a weekly basis just to keep things looking trim and neat.
The older communities and neighbours are top locations to score a bit of gardening work. These are people that enjoy their garden but need assistance with some of the more physical tasks like mowing the lawn and removing branches. Usually they will supply all the equipment that is needed. All you need to do is turn up, grab the mower and mow the lawns. Other people that many require some assistance in the garden are dual income families. These people are time poor and the time spent tending their gardens is not worth their while. It is far more cost effective to employ someone to look after the garden.
The other plus with gardening work is that it can be relatively flexible. You can arrange a regular period of work to suit your schedule. If you do enjoy plants, getting outdoors and have a bit of experience with garden around the family home tending to other people’s gardens is a terrific way of getting some extra cash. Gardening is typically more of a daytime activity. Make sure you’ve got an appropriate amount of time during daylight hours either on weekdays or weekends to dedicate to a garden job.
Lookout for advertisements at universities, local free papers and community notice boards as these are the types of places people will advertise for general gardening work. You can also try getting a job with a gardening company although many of these establishments are looking to take on full time employees. If you can’t find any advertisements for gardening work, you can always try generating your own employment. Print off a few leaflets and distribute them in your local community and run an advertisement in your local community paper. Target suburban areas with gardens rather than unit or apartment dense areas. Find out what the average gardening rate is in the area and be sure to offer a competitive rate. If you don’t have your own tools, make sure you mention this in your advert with some catchy caption and compensate with a lower than average charge rate. Plenty of people would be happy to save a few dollars an hour on their gardening service if it all it meant was offering the use of their own mower.
