Clerical and secretarial jobs are a good field for students to look into for part time employment. There are many small companies that are looking for part time or split shift clerical staff. These companies don’t have the means or need to have a full time secretary. Instead, they need someone to work in the office a couple days a week or for regular short periods to help keep the organizational side of the company in check. Other popular places of clerical employment are healthcare offices. Small surgeries, dental practices and GP offices will employ multiple office staff to help run the daily management of the practice.
A clerical job can help you make a small step towards the career that you are studying for whilst also helping your part time employment favour. Getting a clerical position with a company within your field of study may lead to future employment when you are fully qualified, expose you to industry contacts and may open the door to exposure and experience within the industry prior to formally finishing your studies. When applying for several clerical jobs, make sure the one you put in extra effort for are those that are in your field.
