More dress to impress tips for your next job interview…
5) Trendy fashions.
Unless you are going for a job in the fashion or entertainment industry, rocking up to a job interview with the hottest new Fendi handbag or Versace emblazoned jacket won’t necessarily score high points. Getting too glam-ed up for an interview is very much like outdoing the bride at a wedding. Dress smart but do not outdo your interviewer. You don’t want to be giving them the impression that you’ve got more money than sense before you get the job offer.
6) Don’t pull out grandpa’s old suit.
Make sure that whatever you do wear to the job interview is at least somewhat reflective of the current trends in office attire. Picking up some new office clothes that are appropriate for a job interview can be done relatively cheaply. Do yourself a favour and buy at least one new business style outfit. Should you land the job, You’ll most likely be needing it sooner rather than later. A shop assistant should be able to help you find a modern outfit that fits correctly. Avoid overly baggy or tight clothing. You either look like you mugged some donut loving office worker for their clothing or like you’re trying to squeeze into your beloved year 10 formal suit. Women seem to fall victim to the tight clothing look. If your boobs are busting out of the shirt and the outline of your lacy bra can be seen don’t be expecting to get hired on your business merits.
7) Say no to powerful deodorants, colognes and perfumes.
Walking past someone who’s doused themselves in scent is head spinning enough. Imagine being stuck in a room with them for anywhere between 15 to 30 minutes. It would be nauseating and odds are you would be keen on inviting that smell back into the office. Choose a light cologne or perfume and use it sparingly. If you are worried that you stink, take a good shower before your interview. Don’t rely on the shower in a can to mask your bad odours.
8) Take some time in front of the mirror.
Guys should be clean shaven, brush your hair back neatly and style in a conservative rather than funky look. Get a good night sleep and be sure that your face is looking radiant rather than drawn and dehydrated after a big night on the cans. Check your teeth are clean practice some interview style questions and you’re good to go. Women should go easy on the make up. Use a light brush of neutral tones or forego the make up all together. Hair should be neatly held back rather than whishing about everywhere. Use a fresh hair tie or clip. Try to reflect your age in the way you dress and present rather than dressing to an older or younger style.
